The AMA has assembled an impressive, growing permanent collection comprised of African, American and European art. The Museum houses one of the largest collections of sub-Saharan African art in the southeast, including masks, sculpture, pottery, baskets, textiles, jewelry and gold weights. A hands-on gallery for children, Amazing Space, draws from the Museum's extensive permanent collection and provides children the opportunity to play and interact with art.

The exhibition tells the story of Anne Frank and her family, following them from freedom in 1920's Germany, to exile in the Netherlands, to hiding in a secret annex above her father's business in Amsterdam, and finally, to death in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. The Exhibit includes a 28-minute film on "The Short Life of Anne Frank", a virtual tour of the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam, a student artwork exhibit and an exhibit on the life of a soldier from an all black unit who witnessed the liberation of a concentration camp.

ADVISORY: This is emotionally challenging material and best experienced by patrons able to comprehend difficult subject matter.

Step back in time - see the 1840's Archibald Smith Plantation Home in Historic Roswell with furnishings collected by the family from 1840 - 1940. There are 12 outbuildings including barn, corncrib, kitchen, carriage house and well. The site represents three generations of the Smith family who lived on the property.

An oasis of beauty in Atlanta, the Atlanta Botanical Gardens has three major components. The Gainesville location is a new destination for connecting with beauty and the natural world. Complete with a visitor center, outdoor gardens, a model train garden and an amphitheater, it is a cultural center for the community hosting exciting exhibitions, events, and educational programs.

The nationally recognized collections expand the horticultural palette of Atlanta Botanical Garden. The Garden has already developed a sophisticated horticultural operation and the largest conservation nursery in the Southeast on the property. Endangered plants are propagated on the site for the conservation program.

Barrington King, co-founder of Roswell, built Barrington Hall on the highest point in Roswell. Built in the Greek Revival style and listed on the National Register of Historic Homes, it was completed in 1842 and has been restored as close to its original form as possible. Craftsmen skilled in the lost art of plastering restored the horsehair plaster walls throughout the house, cracked and severely damaged by fire and water. The original heart pine floors and walnut doors have been refinished and many of the faux painted doors have also been restored.

This museum is located in downtown Cartersville, Georgia, and documents the history of northwest Georgia’s Bartow County, spanning more than 200 years since the Cherokee were the area’s primary residents. Artifacts, photographs, documents, and a variety of interactive permanent exhibits tell the story of settlement, Cherokee life and removal, Civil War strife, and lifestyles of years past. The Telephone museum uses interesting and nostalgic exhibits, photographs, tapes and slides to commemorate the first century of telecommunications in the United States. Between 1900 and 1910 the number of rural telephones increased over 500%. Exhibits show working step-by-step switch equipment, switchboards, electronic switching systems; lifesize replica of a telephone installer; various transmission systems including cable, microwave; satellite technology; optic fiber technology and digital technology. In Atlanta's children's museum, exhibits are out-of-the-ordinary and larger-than-life, but all the action is kid-level. At Imagine It The Children's Museum of Atlanta, a child's wildest imagination can run free. This is a place where children eight and under can learn and explore with other children and with grown ups in a fun and hands-on environment. There's so much to explore! At Imagine It! kids can move balls through a giant machine powered by teamwork, slide down a giant banana, paint a masterpiece right on the wall, shop in a miniature grocery store, operate a crane or load a pretend delivery truck.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the graceful two-story Greek Revival home was built by a U.S. Senator in 1901 and has housed three mayors since then. Founded in 1937 and housed in Ware's Folly, the Gertrude Herbert serves as a showcase for local and regional artists, hosting at least six major exhibits of contemporary art in its Main Gallery each year. Built in 1818 for the exorbitant sum of $40,000, Ware's Folly was an architectural first for Augusta. This grand Federal-style house was built under the strict direction of Nicholas Ware, mayor of Augusta and U.S. Senator. The home's fluted pilasters, three-story elliptical staircase, and elegant bay windows served as tourist attractions then, and still enthrall visitors today.

Hammonds House Galleries and Resource Center of African American Art is a fine arts museum in the historic West End which houses a permanent collection by nationally acclaimed and local artists, works by Romare Bearden and Haitian Collections, as well as changing exhibitions. The collections are housed in the former residence of the late Dr. Otis Thrash Hammonds, a prominent Atlanta physician and arts patron.

The first museum in the country dedicated to celebrating and exploring the art and artists of the South, the Morris Museum of Art has a permanent collection of some 2,500 paintings and works on paper. Nearly 1,900 of these works make up the Southern Collection, a broad-based survey collection, encompassing a history of painting in the South and ranging from delicate watercolors by eighteenth century nature artists, to vibrant works by some of today's best-known Southern artists.

The Museum of Aviation is now the second largest museum in the United States Air Force, displaying 93 aircraft and hundreds of exhibits. The Eagle building shaped like the U.S. Forces "Stars and Bar" insignia, houses exhibits, aircraft, archives and offices. The Century of Flight Hangar contains an interactive theater and exhibit hall, as well as several restored aircraft. Hangar One features beautifully restored aircraft (including helicopters and trainers), missiles and engines. Also visit the Heritage Building which features "Windows To A Distant Past," Georgia's most unique sight-and-sound Native American history exhibit, exploring the culture of Georgia's first inhabitants, complete with realistic figures, preserved animals and centuries-old artifacts found during archaeological diggings on Robins Air Force Base.

Noah's Ark is a 250 acre rehabilitation center for animals. They provide a loving home for abused, unwanted, and orphaned animals. Noah’s Ark is not a zoo or humane society but a place dedicated to the care and treatment of wildlife, domestic livestock, exotic animals and birds. Exotic animals, such as tigers, primates, etc., having no “home” in North America, receive permanent residence at Noah’s Ark. Presently, Noah’s Ark has about 1,000 permanent “residents” . Walk along the 40 acre, wheelchair accessible, Nature Trails, have a picnic in their open grounds or take a self-guided tour to see the exotic animals.

Tour begins at the Martha Berry Museum with a 25-minute film and the permanent exhibit that maps the growth of the Berry Schools into Berry College. The second floor houses the art collection of Miss Berry's sister Eugenia, wife of Prince Enrico of Italy, paintings by Italian and American artists spanning nearly 1,000 year. Guided tours of Oak Hill, Greek revival home of Martha Berry, and three outbuildings are included. Tours of the gardens are self-guided. The estate and gardens were home to Union troops during the Civil War. Also on the grounds is the home of "Aunt Martha" Freeman, a former slave who cared for Berry as a young child and lived with the educator for all her life. Must have transportation on site.

On the 3rd floor of the Philip Weltner Library towards the back of the Oglethorpe University campus. Museum is closed between exhibits; please check the museum schedule before making a request. Trace the history of paper from 4,000 B.C. to today. The Robert C. Williams Paper Museum is an international resource on the history of paper and paper technology. It features a collection of over 10,000 watermarks, papers, tools, artifacts, machines, and manuscripts as well as over 10,000 books on paper and hand papermaking.

Built in the 1860s, Rose Lawn was bought by Sam Jones, the "Billy Graham" of the late 1800s. His preaching flourished as he traveled the state raising money for the Methodist Orphanage in Decatur. Preaching in Nashville in 1885, he converted Tom Ryman who built the Union Gospel Tabernacle, later known as Ryman Auditorium. Caring little for theological doctrine, Jones emphasized the simplicity of living a good life with a message as simple as "Quit your meanness." Several outbuildings are also on the tour.

Historic cottage dating c.1840 and birthplace of the great Southern poet, Sidney Lanier. Lanier was a poet, musician, and scholar, nationally known and particularly beloved in the South. He served in the Confederate Army until captured aboard a blockade runner and was confined at Fort Lookout, Maryland.

Formerly a cotton mill gin, this museum is now home to three permanent collections as well as being a new Smithsonian Affiliate, hosting traveling Smithsonian exhibits. Permanent exhibits are "The General", a fully restored Civil War locomotive that was the object of the infamous Andrew's Raid of 1862; the Civil War Era Collection of photographs and artifacts that show the use and importance of railroads; and the Glover Steam Locomotive Collection and Machine Works that played a significant role in industrializing the South after the Civil War.

Come see where the first Waffle House waffle was made in 1955! The first of over 1,500 locations has reopened into a museum. The 13-stool diner and a next-door storefront have been restored with vintage equipment, displays of old uniforms, exhibits of memorabilia and place settings with plastic eggs and shellacked waffles. The jukebox is stocked with oldies and a selection of homespun Waffle House songs.

Tommy Wilson lived in this Presbyterian Manse from 1860 - 1870, spending the formative years of his childhood in Augusta. Here Wilson experienced the hardships of the Civil War and Reconstruction, began his education, tasted leadership as president of the Lightfoot Baseball Club and grounded his deep Presbyterian Faith. He went on to become the 28th President, presided during World War I and was one of the most notable presidents in U.S. history.

    • Groups must contact InCommunity if they plan to change their date and InCommunity will need to advise us of any changes in arrival date (again we do not need to know they are running late or coming early). 
    • Facemasks are REQUIRED for all guests 2 years and older (until further notice)
    • Group maximum is still 50 persons.  Groups that come with more than 50 guests MUST pay the admission price of $19.99 plus tax for each person over this amount.  Credit Card and Debit Card are the only forms of payment we accept at this time.  If the organization does not carry Debit-Credit Cards for extra guest payments we would accept a COMPANY CHECK only (no Cash or Personal Checks are accepted at this time).
  • The ticket limit is 50 per day per agency.
  • If you wish to take more than 50, you must have money ready to pay for additional tickets (adult rate) or make a reservation for extra tickets (that you will be paying for) per instructions from VSA arts of GA office when ticket request is confirmed. 

More than 1,000 animals are exhibited in natural habitats. Some features are Gorillas in the Ford African Rain Forest, elephant shows and special exhibits throughout the year. Many indoor attractions are available during cold weather. All new Indoor Reptile House. . .it's amazing!
